The team at Hartson Fire is delighted to be invited to provide fire extinguishers to the latest DIY SOS project in Swansea, having provided on site fire safety equipment for the programme’s Roots Foundation Wales project in Fforestfach back in September 2017.
The 2020 programme, for Children in Need due to air this November, sees the team pitch up at Caswell Bay this month to take on September to take on a one-of-a-kind build which will benefit Surfability UK. Nick Knowles and his team will build a new centre and convert Surfability UK’s current base, a dilapidated out of use bus stop shelter, into a state-of-the-art eco-friendly surf centre.
With the help of trade volunteers and suppliers like Hartson Fire, the team will also build a new innovative and of architectural merit surf centre. The new centre will provide a much-needed space to provide support and surfing opportunities to disabled people from across the UK.
Says Victoria Hartson, MD of Hartson Fire, “We are delighted to be invited for the second time to support the DIY SOS programme in Swansea by providing essential fire equipment for the site whilst under construction. This is for such a worthy cause that will benefit so many people who otherwise would not be able to enjoy surfing and we are proud as a company to be a part, albeit small, of this project.”
Hartson Fire supplies fire extinguishers to many construction companies across South Wales for use on new-build and renovation sites. Fire extinguishers are vitally important on a construction as the risk of a fire breaking out can be very high. Not only can people be killed or injured, but fires can also be financially devastating to those involved. The bigger the project the higher the risk, but even smaller construction sites should have robust measures in place to prevent or manage a fire.
Fires can grow extremely rapidly. If a construction fire occurs, the primary aim is to ensure that everyone on-site reach safety as soon as possible. Delay can be fatal. Site staff may need to fight a fire to enable their escape, but tackling larger fires is the fire brigade’s task.
